VSS pupil interviews former pupil

One of our roving reporters, Eilidh, recently met up with Shannon, a former VSS pupil, to find out  more about life at college and work.

Q.  What subjects did you take in 5th year?

A.  English maths history and biology

Q.  What was your favourite subject at school?

Maths

Q.  What did you study at college?

Business. It was all on computers.

Q.  What advice would you give to someone moving from school to college?

It is not as scary or hard as you might think. You have to remember to ask for help.

Q. What kind of technology did you use at college?

I used a laptop with Zoomtext. Zoomtext is software that magnifies everything on the screen.

Q.  What did you do to get funding for technology you used?

I got in touch with the learning support centre and they were happy to help me.   I got a placement through Jobs Scotland. It was only supposed to be for a few weeks then it got extended for another 6 months and then another 6 months. I really liked it.

Q. What is the difference between school and work?

I had to ask for help. At Access to Work I had to ask for help such as the CCTV so I was able to do my job. At job interviews I have to say what I need to be able to do this. It is like starting academy again, as everyone is starting a new thing from scratch. You get a lot more freedom. It is good.
