Through regular home visits and communication a need was identified to establish a group where parents/carers/extended families could meet in a relaxed atmosphere and share their experiences.
Therefore a monthly Family Group Coffe Morning was set up within Aberdeen School for the Deaf. Parents/carers/extended families from Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire can meet others in an informal setting. Babies and toddlers are welcome. Other professionals e.g. NDCS family support officer, Speech and Language Therapist, Social Workers for the Deaf and staff from the Hearing Support Service may also drop in. This allows instant access to support and information on a variety of topics.
Throughout the year a variety of events and activities take place during the Family Group Coffee mornings e.g. Book Start, Christmas Craft, Pancake Day and these are thoroughly enjoyed by all.
All parents have expressed how beneficial and enjoyable these mornings are.
